Walford Timber has undertaken its largest manufacturing improvement in many years, with its Ross-on-Wye site being modernised to support the next generation of timber products.

The newly upgraded Ross-on-Wye site timber treatment plant has been the focus of the investment following 33 years of continuous use.

Work began in early October, and the new plant has now been commissioned. Throughout the upgrade, the site remained fully operational, with no interruption to customer service.

The old plant was fully decommissioned and removed using cranes. All outdated systems were replaced with new, advanced components.

Walford Timber kept only two recently installed pressure vessels, which already met advanced standards.

“This investment is more than a replacement—it is a complete redesign aimed at improving efficiency, increasing product availability, and offering more environmentally responsible options across our treatment operations,” said Walford Timber.

The new facility features additional storage tanks providing increased production flexibility and greater overall capacity; an improved site layout to remove bottlenecks throughout the treatment process; upgraded pumps to reduce energy use and improve throughput; and added automation that will enhance quality and reduce downtime.

Walford Timber, which was established over 80 years ago, is a WPA Benchmark-certified treater, with its work also further supported by the Arxada Treatright Warranty.
