Luton-based Whitehill Spindle Tools claims to have improved its productivity by as much as 20% by using Vibration Damped Palletisation (VDP) from System 3R.

Whitehill, which manufactures specialist cutter tools for making wooden doors, windows and a range of other architectural features, is using VDP as its prime workholding tool.

Managing director David Hudson said the efficient vibration damping of the VDP system had proved essential when cutting speeds needed to be increased on heavy cuts. The need to slow the machine down had been eliminated, even at its maximum speed of 12,000rpm.

“We can now cut faster without any vibration affecting the machining and I would estimate that VDP has given us a 15-20% increase in productivity,” said Mr Hudson.

“It also allows us to use harder solid carbide tooling when we need to without fear of any vibration affecting the machining operation. And we have noticed that we can do more with the same tool, so tool life has also improved,” added Mr Hudson.
