More than 50 architects and specifiers attended wood. for good‘s first “Building Sustainably with Timber” seminar in London.
The January 26 event, one of three seminars being held at The Building Centre, focused on timber solutions for commercial buildings and included case studies from Eurban Construction and White Design.
Wood. for good project manager John Fletcher outlined the challenge set by government commitments to reduce CO2 emissions, improve construction methods and build more, higher quality, yet lower-cost homes.
He said: “All materials are competing to claim sustainability credentials. Wood demonstrates its suitability in all three aspects of a product or material’s life cycle assessment evaluation.”
Jonathan Fovargue presented nursery school and private home developments recently built by his company Eurban Construction in London, explaining how carbon stored in such structures could be offset against emissions associated with the construction of new buildings.
Craig White of White Design demonstrated how innovative features at the company’s Kingsmead School project could provide children and teachers with a stimulating and healthy learning environment. Kingsmead is a department for education and skills “examplar” school and a Constructing Excellence demonstration project.
The second seminar on February 16 focused on engineered structures, while housebuilding will be highlighted on March 2.
