AHEC supports Wood Awards Ireland

28 May 2014

The new Wood Awards Ireland has received a boost after the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) announced its support for the event.

The awards, organised by the Wood Marketing Federation, promotes wood as a sustainable material in innovative construction and design.

“I’ve been keen to see the award develop in Ireland as an initiative to promote wood to architects,” said David Venables, AHEC European director.

“Many Irish architects are interested in specifying wood and the market for US hardwood in Ireland is increasing.”

Wood Awards Ireland is also supported by Coillte, Enterprise Ireland, Coford, the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland, the Irish government’s department of agriculture and the Society of Irish Foresters.

The awards has five main categories; large-scale construction with limited or open public access, small-scale private construction, restoration, structural and furniture. The closing date is July 16, 2014.
