Ash borer pest spreads in US

17 December 2012

New control areas have been added in the fight against the spread of the emerald ash borer (EAB) pest in the US.

A county in Kansas and New York are now included in the regulated areas ordered by the Federal government to prevent interstate movement of EAB-regulated articles. Host wood and wood products, such as firewood, green lumber, composts and chips are banned.

EAB (agrilus planipennis), the invasive wood boring beetle native to China and eastern Asia, has been responsible for the death and decline of tens of millions of US ash trees.
