Best forestry student named
14 October 2013The 2013 UPM Tilhill award for Best Student on the Harper Adams University Sustainable Forestry and Forest Products module was awarded to Matthew Bevan who graduated with a first-class BSc Honours degree in Countryside Management.
Mr Bevan, from Spalding, completed a year-long industrial placement with the National Trust in the Shropshire Hills, before returning to Harper Adams to complete his degree.
Forestry lecturer Jim Waterson said the university's link with UPM Tilhill was invaluable. "[It] helps ensure a real connection between our teaching, the forest and forest products industries and our students," he said.
Mr Bevan received a specially carved wooden trophy in the shape of an acorn and a £250 cheque.
Harper Adams feeds students into UPM Tilhill's graduate trainee programme and the company hosts student visits to its sites.
