Biesse reports profits boost
23 May 2013Italian woodworking machinery manufacturer Biesse SpA has reported a strong recovery in profitability during the first quarter.
The last time Biesse made a net profit in the first quarter of a year was 2008. The Pesaro-based company recorded pre-tax profits of €1.3m for the quarter, compared to a €1m loss a year ago.
Biesse had net consolidated revenues of €84.4m, 2.8% down on a year ago, with added value revenue up slightly to €34m. The company also highlighted its good results from the Ligna show in Hannover earlier in May, with preliminary machinery agreements worth €10m recorded at the event.
He said the good Ligna performance gave Biesse hope that innovation could still generate sales “even in a period of stagnation.”
He singled out the launch of the the bSolid software for its Rover CNC machining centres and the AirForce system on the BSEdge edging machines.
“We derive cautious satisfaction from this return to net profit but are well aware that we are just at the start of a journey to return to pre-crisis growth rates and profitability,” said Biesse CEO Stefano Porcellini.
International demand for Biesse technology has been strong in eastern Europe and the Far East, with a noteworthy amount from Latin America and some Mediterranean rim countries.
