Brash in scaffold board fire treatment first

John Brash says it has become the first and only European manufacturer of timber scaffold boards to install its own dedicated on-site fire retardant treatment facility.

The Gainsborough company has invested in the facility, which uses the Osmose FirePro fire retardant, to meet increasing demand for fire retardant treatments across multiple sectors, including high-risk environments such as London underground and on and off-shore oil and gas plants.

The £150,000 development heralds the launch of John Brash’s JB FireSafe fire retardant treated scaffold board.

John Brash cited the approval of FirePro by the London Underground and the Wood Protection Association in its reasons for choosing the treatment, applied under a vacuum pressure impregnation system.

The company believes JB FireSafe will offer reduced lead times due to a shorter supply chain, streamlined logistics and costs and treatment to Euroclass B or C (equivalent to BS 476 Class 0 or 1).

The company has refurbished an older, unused treatment vessel to use FirePro. Previously, it was sub contracting fire-treatment of boards to third party treaters.

“Our new facilities mean that we can now be certain to stay at the forefront of fire treatment technology, as well as maintaining ultimate quality control, passing numerous benefits directly on to our clients,” said John Brash managing director Christian Brash.

John Brash said the facility would also be open for outside contracts to treat to Euroclass B or C, though with air-drying only.

A large portion of its fire-treated boards are exported overseas to petrochemical companies.

The company manufactures three categories of fire retardant scaffold boards: 38x225mm BSI 1.2m support centre; 38x225mm 1.5m; and 63x225mm 2.5m.
