Brazilian rebound in tropical sawn timber exports

Brazil experienced a strong rebound in tropical sawn timber exports during September, according to the International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO).

ITTO’s latest market report shows Brazilian tropical sawn timber exports increased by 8.9% to US$206m (2009: US$190m) during the month, with volumes rising to 51,300m³ (2009: 46,600m³). This represented a 10.1% rise in volume and 8.7% rise in value.

But tropical plywood exports continued to fall with 4,800m³ being shipped, down from 6,200m³ a year ago.

Pine plywood exports gained 2.9% to US$24.8m, even though volumes fell 20.2% to 67,500m³, while pine sawn timber saw a 6.5% growth in value to US$14.8m.
