Brazilian timber firms to act on permit delay

Timber firms in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso are to take legal action against the area’s government to recoup monies lost from delays in deliveries caused by the Marketing and Transport of Forest Products System (Sisflora).

Companies are preparing to take legal advice unless immediate short-term action is taken by the state government to speed up the issuance of timber transportation permits, reports state newspaper Só Notícias.

Sisflora is an online service integrated with the Register of Forest Products Consumers to assist and monitor the sale and transport of forest products from the state.

A lack of civil servants and small institutional structures are being blamed for the delay in issuing permits, which is affecting sales and transport to customers across Brazil as well as exports.
