BSW Alouette to increase Super E development

27 October 2007

BSW Alouette has been awarded a £2m contract to carry out phase three of an “innovative development” in Kent using the Canadian Super E timber building technology.

The next stage of the development, being undertaken by Berkeley Homes, will comprise a further 70 units built using the timber technoogy, which is designed to address thermal performance, air permeability, durability, fire protection, sound transmission and help to reduce bills and allow greater control of the ambient temperature of the house.

The announcement of the contract coincided with a visit to the Holborough Valley development by Canadian federal minister for natural resources Gary Lunn.

“The Super E system provides an integrated approach to reducing the energy consumption of houses and provides a solid platform for builders in the UK to move to the next level of energy efficiency and zero carbon designs,” said Norman Gore, technical director at BSW Alouette.

“Our innovative products and construction practices are all helping to make energy-efficient housing marketable and affordable to the UK homebuyer.”

Philip Wright, BSW Alouette managing director, added that Super E “has already attracted major interest from the industry” and that the firm is “looking for other partners who may wish to utilise the outstanding Super E technology”.
