BSW cyclists raise cash for air ambulance

1 July 2010

A team of nine determined BSW Timber employees from Carlisle have raised £2,180 for the Great North Air Ambulance by spending 12 hours in the saddle, cycling 147 miles, coast-to-coast, from Whitehaven to Tynemouth.

“This is an incredible achievement for all involved, raising vital funds for the Great North Air Ambulance, which relies solely on public funding,” said Alistair Sommerville, mill manager at BSW’s Carlisle site.

“It was also a meaningful team-building exercise for the participants, teaching them to work better together and appreciate the support of colleagues,” he said.

BSW’s charity cyclists were John Atkinson, Tony Messner, Nigel Patrickson, Andy Conley, Barry Elliot, Adrian Smith, Stephen Lancaster, Richard Vose and Gary Nelson, while Dave Exton played an invaluable role as transport manager.
