BSW staff raise £4,000 in memory of Alan Wheat

21 October 2011

A team of 10 BSW Timber employees has raised more than £4,000 in memory of the sawmill’s sales and marketing director, Alan Wheat, who passed away earlier this year.

The group took part in the Great Cumbrian Run on October 2 to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support, whose nurses cared for Mr Wheat during his illness.

The team comprised BSW Timber’s marketing manager, Eve Johnson, Mike Faulkner, Scott Shiells, Emma Parkinson, Alistair Somerville, Richard Scott, Dan Barry, Jim Halpin, Gillian McAllister and Chris Offa.

“Earlier this year, we lost not only an esteemed colleague but a true friend. Alan Wheat was a huge character in all of our lives and we miss him dearly,” said Ms Johnson.

“We have already exceeded our fund-raising target and the team is hugely grateful to the friends, colleagues and members of the timber industry who have generously donated funds and supported our efforts in the half marathon.”

The 13-mile run started at Carlisle Castle, taking in the local countryside before finishing in the city at Sheepmount Athletics Stadium.

Donations in memory of Alan Wheat can still be made at www.justgiving.com/bswtimber.
