Burbidge powers on in porches

21 December 2005

Richard Burbidge reports booming business in its flat-pack timber porches.

The range was launched in 2004 and in the last 12 months 3,000 units have been sold, complete with Burbidge's porch spindle accessory kits.

The porches themselve comprise pre-cut components in untreated pine and start at a retail price of £149.99. Each canopy is supplied with adjustable uprights allowing extra flexibility in design.

The accessory kits, including turned or chamfered spindles in full or half lengths, start at £119.99.

Burbidge product manager Catriona Houston said that demand for the porches reflected householders desire to "enhance the kerbside appeal" of their properties. And previously, she added, consumers who wanted a porch had little option but to pay for a bespoke product from a local joiner.

The porches are being aimed at both the trade installer and the DIY market.
