Cash boost for Glasgow woodlands project

30 November 2005

A £3m cash injection for Glasgow and Clyde Valley woodlands will help support business opportunities in the forestry industry and improve the lives of people in the area.

The investment will enable woodlands to be expanded on derelict land close to communities, providing greater exercise opportunities for people in an area plagued by poor health standards.

Scottish forestry minister Rhona Brankin, who announced the funding, said: "It is exciting to see the eight Glasgow and Clyde Valley authorities working in partnership with Forestry Commission Scotland, Scottish Natural Heritage and Greenspace Scotland. I believe that together they will make a real impact on the surrounding environment."

The cash boost will act as a catalyst to implement the new Glasgow & Clyde Valley Forestry & Woodlands Framework, developed by all eight local authorities covering the area.
