The US-based Coalition for Fair Lumber Imports has welcomed Canada's decision to implement the softwood lumber agreement.

The group's statement follows support for the agreement by the Canadian lumber industry and subsequent confirmation by the Canadian government that the deal with be put to parliament.

“The US lumber industry continues to have significant concerns about certain aspects of the agreement, but nonetheless supports the initiative of both governments to settle this dispute,” said coalition chairman Steve Swanson.

He applauded the leadership of President Bush and the Amercian government in making the agreement a reality.
