Confor elects new chairman

25 September 2012

George Webb, group purchasing manager at Norbord, has been elected as the new chairman of Confor.

He succeeded Colin Mann at Confor’s AGM on September 13, who had completed a three-year term but will continue as an ordinary board member.

Mr Webb said he was looking forward to working with Confor staff and members on behalf of the industry.

“There are both significant opportunities and challenges facing our sector and our industry, more than ever, needs effective representation. Confor has significantly strengthened the sector’s voice in government, as well as providing a range of high quality member services and undertaking wood promotion through Wood for Good,” he said.

Mr Webb paid tribute to his predecessor, congratulating him for steering Confor through a period when important work was required in support of the industry and to raise its profile.

Mr Mann said Confor’s profile had never been higher with government, and it had played a key role in cross-industry collaboration, through initiatives like the industry accords with other trade associations and health and safety.

“These promise strong progress for the future,” he said.
