Craftsmen achieve master status

4 June 2009

Eight carpenters and joiners have achieved the formal status of master craftsman under the Institute of Carpenters’ (IoC) Master Certificate Scheme.

Patrick Joe Clancy, Steven Leaverland, Terence Longhurst, Adrian Maloney, Paul Preston, Gary Smith, Christopher Taft and Andrew Walmsley were presented with their certificates during ceremonies at Carpenters’ Hall in London and the Leeds College of Building.

IoC operations director Duncan King said the scheme recognised excellence in carpentry, joinery and shopfitting. Recipients were also encouraged to act as mentors for young people entering the fields.

“We are proactively encouraging our members who already have extensive experience in both their craft and in the management of their business, and the response we are seeing is remarkable,” said Mr King.
