Danish timber procurement guidance updated

18 September 2008

Denmark has started the process of updating its timber procurement guidance document.

The document is temporary guidance for public purchasers of timber while criteria for legal and sustainable timber and assessment of forest certification schemes is finalised.

At the moment the guidance advises purchasers to accept both FSC and PEFC certification as a guarantee for sustainable forest management.

The Danish Forest and Nature Agency is recommending the government continues to accept both schemes.

Work to develop the criteria for legal and sustainable timber is on standby until the European Gross Primary Productivity process is complete.
