Duke tours BSW mill

17 July 2010

The Duke of Edinburgh has toured BSW Timber’s Dalbeattie sawmill following the company’s announcement of a £7m investment in the facility.

BSW chief executive Tony Hackney said the Duke of Edinburgh’s visit had given the company an opportunity to showcase the investment at Dalbeattie, the base of Howie Forest Products.

“We are proud to be the UK’s leading sawmilling business and will maintain that position by continuing to make substantial investments for the growth and security of the business,” he said.

The first phase of investment will see productivity increase in sawn timber and the installation of a new planer and grade line to almost double production of Easi-Edge construction timber each year.

A new stacker system will further improve operational efficiencies to boost Easi-Edge volume, whilst releasing greenmill capacity. A new heat source facility for the mill and kilns is also envisaged.

Current plans include the construction of a biomass boiler.
