Dunn appointed BREEAM director

14 August 2013

Former group operations director at Elmhurst Energy Dr Gavin Dunn has been appointed as director of BREEAM.

He replaces Richard Hardy who was promoted to managing director of the organisation's global certification business last year.

Dr Dunn's mission is to drive more international growth for the standard which will benefit not only BRE but the UK's construction sector.

"BREEAM is a highly adaptable framework which allows for local adaption to bridge cultural barriers," he said. "It is making significant inroads in countries like China where we recently signed an agreement with a Chinese state developer who will apply BREEAM and BREEAM In Use on a multi-billion dollar flagship waterfront development in Shanghai. Other flagship projects in China include the exhibition centre for the new Meixi Lake Eco-City, which is being designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley to achieve BREEAM Outstanding. These developments will bring benefits not only to BRE but to the broader industry of designers, engineers, and product and materials suppliers in the UK which have the expertise that countries like China could benefit from."

Dr Dunn has a PhD from Cardiff University in the energy performance of buildings, and is a fellow of the Association of Building Engineers.
