EU launches safety at work campaign

9 December 2005

The safety of young people at work will be the theme of an EU-wide campaign which will commence next year.

Research has shown that young people run a 50% higher risk of work accidents than other workers.

Figures from the UK Health and Safety executive show that men in the 20-24 age group suffer the second highest total incidence of non-fatal workplace accidents. Women in the same age group are the fifth most vulnerable group.

The European Agency has launched an online pool of information on issues related to young people and their safety and health.

Topics covered include accident prevention and integrating occupational safety and health into education.
