European woodworking machinery and tool suppliers boosted turnover by 10.2% during 2011 to almost €6bn, new figures reveal.

The annual report of the European woodworking industry and tools industry published by Eumabois in November said the sector had a strong export trade.

Outside sales had increased 31.5% during 2011 and now accounted for 30% of production. Asia accounted for more than half of all exports at just over €1bn. The US imported €538m worth of orders.

The report said the European industry earned €5.9bn in 2011, with 1,000 significant companies, which employed 39,000 people.

Germany had a 42.5% share of the total turnover and Italy 28.7%.
