Tomi Salo has been appointed director of the Finnish Forest Industries Federation's Forests and Environment Sector.

Mr Salo was previously managing director of L&T Biowatti, before which he worked for the company as a forestry services executive with responsibility for the wood procurement function. He has also worked as a branch manager at the Trade Association of Finnish Forestry and Earth Moving Contractors.

“Tomi Salo has extensive experience of wood procurement for the forest industry and bioenergy production as well as of related branch organisation activities. His experience will enhance our efforts especially on domestic forest policy, which is an area of emphasis for us,” said the federation’s director-general, Timo Jaatinen.

Mr Salo said renewable energy targets made it important to ensure that the right type of wood went to the right end use. “In future, we will need to find a more functional balance between the needs of the wood-processing industry, energy producers and forest owners,” he said.
