Finnish roundwood sales liven up

17 June 2008

Roundwood sales by private forest owners in Finland doubled in May but still amounted to only half the level of wood neeed by the country’s forest industry.

The industry managed to buy two million m³ of timber during the month.

The January-May aggregate purchase volume of 8.2 million m³ was only half the level achieved in 2007.

“The recent campaign launched by the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners and the Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF) to get domestic wood sales going is a good opening and demonstrates that there is a shared willingness to liven up timber sales,” said FFIF president Dr Anne Brunila.
