Finnish trade picks up

Domestic wood procurement in Finland's forest industries was hampered by short supply earlier this year.

But, according to the Finnish Forest Industries Federation (FFIF), trade has picked up and is now brisk after the slow start.

The FFIF said the improved situation is also reflected in rising production figures for sawn wood.

A new record for paper and paperboard production was set in the first half, partly due to the mills' continued operation during the midsummer holiday. This was made possible by a deal brokered a year ago.

“There are many communities in Finland whose vitality is based on our competitive forest industries,” said Anne Brunila of the FFIF. “We want to keep these communities alive in the future as well.”
