Forestry Commission publishes practice guide

12 August 2013

The Forestry Commission (FC) has published a new practice guide “Choosing stand management methods for restoring planted ancient woodland sites”.

The guide has been produced for landowners and woodland managers and supports the UK Forestry Standard guidelines on forestry and biodiversity.

"Restoring plantations on ancient woodland sites (PAWS) to native woodlands is a challenge that requires more than simply recreating an area of native trees," said an FC spokesperson.

"All sites are different and will need a site assessment to optimise the choice of methods before starting restoration."
