Fountains helps Ghanaian delegation

2 December 2005

Forest management company fountains plc recently hosted a delegation from the Ghana Forestry Commission on a trip to a woodland owned by Southern Water plc in the south of England.

The Ghanaian delegates have been visiting the UK to learn more about forestry certification and how it may be implemented for their own timber market.

Stephen Coffey, senior manager for fountains forestry division, said the trip enabled the visitors to understand the nature of the work required to conform to certification such as ancient woodland restoration, public access and habitat creation.

He added: "While our climates and species vary greatly, certification in both Ghana and the UK has the joint objective of achieving sustainability for international timber markets."
