German traders turn out in force

18 November 2009

A timber industry dinner held by the German Timber Trade Federation in Cologne on November 10 attracted 1,380 people.

A two-day exhibition held in tandem with the event attracted 168 exhibitors and 2,700 visitors. The exhibition was 17% bigger than the previous event two years ago.

Popular themes among exhibitors were wood-plastic composites and thermally-modified timber. A trend away from bangkirai hardwood decking was noticed.

In construction products, BSH, KVH, Duo and Trio beams and solid wood boards were well represented.

Meanwhile, the German Association of the Sawmilling & Timber Industry (BSHD), manufacturers of thermally-modified timber and the Institute of Wood Technology in Dresden are to discuss a joint approach to quality assurance and standardisation for thermally-modified wood products.
