Ghana's timber exports fall

11 May 2009

Ghanaian timber and wood product export applications fell 21% in the fourth quarter of 2008, according to the latest International Tropical Timber Organisation (ITTO) market report.

The applications, covering shipments through the ports of Takoradi and Tema as well as overland exports through neighbouring countries, show lumber continued to be the most popular export product.

Plywood, mouldings and sliced veneer were the next biggest items.

The ITTO price index put the sawn sapele FAS 25-100x150x2400mm price at €540/m³ for air-dried products and €600 for kiln dried.
