Ghana's timber exports rise

Ghana’s timber export volume reached 2.66 million m³ and was worth more than US$93m during the first half of 2007, according to the latest International Tropical Timber Organisation timber market report.

The volume represented a 22% rise in volume and 9.5% growth in value compared to a year ago.

Popular export species for sawnwood and sliced veneers were wawa, ceiba, ofram and mahogany.

Kiln dried lumber accounted for 21.2% of the export volume, with air dried products having a 15.5% share.

Nigeria was the leading plywood importer from Ghana with 69.5% (35,813m³) of the total plywood export volume.
