Ghana approved an increased level of timber export permits during the second quarter, according to the latest market report of the International Tropical Timber Organisation.

The timber industry development division of the country’s Forestry Commission approved 1,974 export permits during the periods, covering shipments through the ports of Takoradi and Tema, as well as overland exports to neighbouring African countries.

The figure represents a 22.5% increase from the first quarter.

Permits rose for sawn timber, rotary veneer, sliced veneer, veneer layons, mouldings and blockboard.

However, flooring, teak billets/poles/logs, gmelina billets/poles and rubberwood billets dropped considerably.
