Ghana timber exports rise

Ghana’s timber exports grew by 7.7% to 430,100m³ in the first nine months of 2008.

Revenue from the exports were up 4.2% to €144.42m compared to a year before, says the latest International Tropical Timber Organisation market report.

The result has been attributed to higher volumes of sliced veneer, plywood, rotary veneer and kiln-dried lumber. Air-dried lumber and boules saw a fall in exports.

Kiln-dried sawn timber exports totalled 91,350m³ for the period while 57,240m³ of air-dried products was shipped.

Europe accounted for 45% of the volume, while the US took 9%.
