9 December 2010

Guyana’s first kiln-drying facility has been commissioned, according to the International Tropical Timber Organisation’s (ITTO) latest market report.

The GY$20m 10,000m³ capacity facility in the Essequibo region was commissioned under the ITTO-funded project “Value-adding and kiln-drying of commercial timbers by small scale community sawmillers in Guyana”. The project was implemented by the Guyana Forestry Commission.

The facility, opened by the country’s minister of agriculture, is the first of three kiln drying complexes being established in Guyana.
