Hardwood trade gathers in London

24 January 2018

Around 180 people involved in the UK and international hardwood trade gathered together at the London Hardwood Club’s (LHC) New Year Lunch.

The event on January 19 at the HAC off City Road saw importers, distributors and sawmillers network at the UK’s largest hardwood event.

LHC president David Howard told guests that the hardwood trade could hold its head high with its recent environmental track record, whereas the use of timber for fuel and farming around the world were major sources of forest depletion.

He also urged people to join the LHC, with information and contacts from regular meetings a potential help to people operating in the trade.

“If there is anything you want to know in the hardwood trade or you want to expand your network then join the London Hardwood Club,” he said.

Elsewhere, at the event, many traders told TTJ the trade was starting well for them in 2018, with healthy trading conditions.

A sum of £2,675 was raised to be split between the Timber Trades’ Benevolent Society and Macmillan Nurses, with former British world boxing champion John Conteh providing the entertainment.
