Howells heads line-up at TRADA conference

27 November 2006

Award-winning architect Glenn Howells will present a case study of this year's Wood Awards overall winner the Savill Building at TRADA's In Touch with Timber conference next May.

The architect's practice designed the Savill Building - a visitor centre in Windsor Great Park - featuring a timber gridshell roof exposed on the interior.

The conference will be TRADA's third In Touch with Timber event, aimed at architects, engineers and other construction industry professionals. It will take place on May 1 at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre, Westminster.

Other speakers will include Meredith Bowles of Mole Architects who will discuss his commitment to passive technologies, natural materials and energy efficient construction systems.

Roddy Langmuir of Edward Cullinan Architects will share his vision for using wood more imaginatively, with a look at two new timber roofs in public projects.

Martin Wood of Bryden Wood Associates will complete the pre-lunch session with a discussion on component design.

Delegates will have a choice of afternoon workshops, including achieving sustainability in timber design, restoration of timber buildings, top tips for timber frame, Eurocode 5, large timber structures and modern timber details.

An exhibition of timber products, including flooring, timber preservation, timber-related software, timber engineering hardware, engineered wood products and timber frame construction will be staged throughout the day.
