Howie Forest Products sponsors Macmillan Cancer art exhibition

Howie Forest Products is sponsoring More than 70 pieces of original art are to go on sale at the Macmillan Cancer Support Art Exhibition & Sale, which will feature more than 70 pieces of original art.

All funds raised from the event, at Threave Estate, Castle Douglas from October 17-31, the charity continue its work in Dumfries and Galloway.

Howie Forest Products, the Dalbeattie-based sawmill, is the main sponsor of the exhibition and sale which aims to raise a substantial amount for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Laura Smith and Neil Cowan of Howie Forest Products were joined at the launch of the event by Camilla Hyslop from Macmillan and artist Hazel Campbell who unveiled one of the paintings due to be exhibited and offered for sale during the two-week art showcase.

The project is the first of its kind in the area and aims to repeat the success of the Save the Children Art Sales at Rozelle House in Ayr and the Macmillan Art Sale in Glasgow.

Howie sales director Laura Smith said the company was proud to be supporting the event.

“We employ around 150 local people at our Dalbeattie mill and will be encouraging them all to visit the art exhibition and show their support for the work the charity does in the Dumfries and Galloway area.”

Macmillan’s Stewartry Committee chairperson Camilla Hyslop said money raised would go toward home visits and support for cancer sufferers and their families.

“We all know someone who has been affected by cancer and just a few hundred pounds can make a difference. We’re grateful to Howie Forest Products for its generous sponsorship, to the local artists who have donated their paintings and to the local people who attend the exhibition,” she said.
