Investigation under way into James Jones fire at Forres

29 April 2014

Sawmiller James Jones & Sons Ltd says it is co-operating fully with police, fire services and the Health and Safety Executive in an investigation into last week’s fire and silo explosion at the Forres plant.

Four members of staff and three firefighters were injured after the sawdust silo explosion at the company’s Forres site on April 24, home to the timber systems division which manufactures the JJI-Joist.

A member of staff flown by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious burn injuries is believed to be timber systems division general manager Brian Robertson.

James Jones described the fire as a very serious incident. It released a statement by joint managing directors Tom Bruce-Jones and Ian Pirie.

“We are pleased to be able to say that whilst serious, none of the injuries are life-threatening. However, our thoughts are with the individuals and their families for a full and speedy recovery.”

The Forres plant resumed normal production on Monday.

The statement has been sent to JJI-Joist distributors and customers, with the company emphasising that customers should see very little, if any, impact on the delivery of orders.
