James Jones completes its first EC5 compliant roof

6 August 2012

James Jones & Sons’ Timber Systems Division has designed its first fully EC5-compliant timber roof for a Scunthorpe school.

The 65x37.5m roof was also the biggest single job ever carried out by James Jones's distribution partner Boards Cottingham. It involved 2,400 linear metres of FSC-certified JJI-Joists.

Boards Cottingham fabricated the structure in six sections and supplied the structural and other timbers to site, with every joist cut and numbered to ease the construction process.

"This was a great opportunity to put our software through its paces and we're delighted how well it performed," said Ross Brown, engineering manager at James Jones Timber Systems.

"This is important because while BS 5268 Part 2 is still operational, most publicly procured projects in the UK already require design to Eurocode standards."
