James Jones's Lockerbie 3 mill resumes full production

22 November 2010

James Jones & Sons Ltd’s Lockerbie 3 sawline has resumed production about five months after being hit by a fire.

The company said sawmilling machinery manufacturer Soderhamn Eriksson had rebuilt the second saw group, the only part of the line to be affected by the June 16 fire, and restarting had been very successful, with full-scale production resumed.

“While the sawline was out of commission, we have also taken this unexpected opportunity to invest substantially in additional in-line cross-cutting equipment which has further improved the yield and flexibility of the mill,” said senior sales manager Graham Blyth.

He said the emergency plan implemented following the fire had involved other James Jones mills increasing output in order to maintain product specification availability.
