JELD-WEN founder dies

One of the founders of international joinery manufacturer JELD-WEN has died.

Richard “Dick” Wendt died last weekend in a hospital in Oregon, following a stroke.

Mr Wendt joined a number of people to buy the assets of a closed window mill to found JELD-WEN in 1960.

The company has become one of the world’s largest door and window manufacturers, with about 20,00 staff and operations in 20 countries.

Mr Wendt was thought to be worth about US$700m.
