JELD-WEN in consultation over Lowestoft factory closure

7 December 2009

JELD-WEN has begun consultations regarding the possible closure of its Lowestoft factory, potentially affecting 194 workers.

“Our markets in the UK have been adversely affected by the general economic situation and in particular the construction industry downturn,” said a JELD-WEN spokesperson. “We are looking for savings in our manufacturing processes in order to remain competitive.

“We know that this is a difficult time for our colleagues in Lowestoft and we will be giving them our full support during the consultation process.”

The Lowestoft site is the former Boulton & Paul factory.

JELD-WEN said none of its other manufacturing sites were affected by the announcement and that while the construction market was “very tough at the moment”, it remained positive about the future.
