JELD-WEN staff build charity work

6 October 2010

Staff at JELD-WEN UK’s factories at Snow Hill in Melton Mowbray have given their time and a large amount of materials to two local worthy causes – refurbishing a sports facility in Egerton Park and upgrading the storage system and loft for the shop run by Dove Cottage Day Hospice in Stathern.

As part of JELD-WEN’s 50th anniversary celebrations, every location around the world is volunteering at least 50 hours of time to the local community or to supporting a local worthy cause.

Staff helped in the repair of the sports pavilion by renovating the paintwork, upgrading the timber work and making new benches for the changing rooms.

“Budget restrictions mean the building is low priority for modernisation, but it was urgently in need of repair and external redecoration,” said Richard Safe, senior town warden for Melton town estate. “We are proud to be renaming it the JELD-WEN pavilion to reflect how pleased we are with the standard of the work carried out and how it has upgraded the facilities in our community.”

JELD-WEN also used its joinery skills and expertise at Dove Cottage Day Hospice in Stathern to create a new shelving system that provided added storage and boarding for the loft in their shop.

Hospice manager Chris Gatfield said the work make a huge difference to the staff and volunteers who work in the shop.
