JELD-WEN staff get on their bikes for 50th anniversary fund-raiser

3 September 2010

Fourteen staff from JELD-WEN in Penrith recently completed a 36-mile charity bike ride from Penrith to Carlisle and back.

The bike ride was part of the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations, for which every JELD-WEN location around the world is volunteering around 50 hours of time to helping in its local community or to supporting local worthy causes.

The group raised over £1,000 for the North Air Ambulance Service and, as well as the cycle, they collected clothing which they also donated to charity shops to raise money. For a bit of added fun, two employees, Jim Kenny and Ben Grisedale, completed the bike ride dressed as nuns.

“The North Air Ambulance provides a vital lifeline in this area and we were delighted to be able to raise funds on their behalf as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations,” said general manager Richard Dolben.

The staff who took part in the bike ride were: Mark Fallowfield, Dan Lake, Martyn Tams, Jim Kenny, Tom Thompson, Paul Jackson, Maurice Jackson, Marie Stewart, Mario Murtas, Ross Mitchell, Barry Whear, Premyslaw Komisarowk, Garry Sowerby and Ben Grisedale.
