JELD-WEN staff go wild

6 August 2010

Staff from JELD-WEN have put their gardening skills into action at the Woodhouse Washlands Nature Reserve, which is next to the company’s door manufacturing plant in Sheffield.

They took part in an afternoon of thistle and ragwort weeding, in association with the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, as part of the company’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

This year, staff at every JELD-WEN site across the UK and the world will give at least 50 hours of their time to a charity.

JELD-WEN managing director Mike Ward said the company had been involved with the Woodhouse Washlands before as many staff lived in the surrounding area and “it is great to be able to give something back”.

The 135-acre nature reserve, which is managed by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust, is home to dozens of rare species of birds, great crested newts, water vole and wild flowers. It also provides a flood plain for the River Rother.

Previously JELD-WEN has purchased new pipes for Woodhouse Washlands and helped to install a new underground water drainage system to provide a better natural habitat for wildlife.
