Jewson agrees council procurement deal

Jewson and the City of Lincoln Council have agreed a materials and products procurement partnership to bring the council cost and efficiency savings.

The building materials supplier will now handle the buying and supplying of materials, including timber, for the council. It had previously handled its own materials procurement and network of internal stores.

The contract, which began on July 1, was arranged through the Office of Government Commerce (OCG) framework, which is designed to help government bodies deliver best value from their spending.

This will bring the council a number of operational benefits, according to logistics team leader Howard Usher, including administrative savings, overhead reductions and a reliable partner in the sector.

“Using the OCG framework with Jewson allows the council to benchmark materials, ensuring that value for money is sustained year-on-year,” said Mr Usher.

“Jewson will also consistently check prices to ensure the council always gets the best deal, and this is aided by the fact that as a leader in their field they have immense buying power.”

Jewson said it was ”extremely pleased” to have been awarded the contract and is looking forward to “a long and close working relationship” with the council.
