Jones takes over as LSC president

4 March 2010

Danny O’Connell handed over the presidency of the London Softwood Club to Steve Jones of Finnforest at its recent AGM, which was attended by 70 people.

Mr O’Connell, of Stora Enso, thanked members and the club committee for their backing during his two-year tenure.

“The club has started to thrive again, thanks to the fantastic support of the membership,” he said. “And I’m sure it will continue to thrive and attract more members under Steve’s leadership. He has an interesting agenda, particularly in terms of attracting younger people, which we really need to do.”

Mr Jones paid tribute to Mr O’Connell for his “reliable, calm and efficent leadership”.

Also at the AGM, Keith Ainslie of James Jones & Sons was elected vice-president, and Mark Lay of Transit Medway as treasurer, with Sylvia Spooner and Cindy Crancher re-elected as joint secretaries.

Long-serving outgoing treasurer Glynn Hicks was awarded life membership of the club in recognition of his service, only the fourth person to receive the honour.

Guest speaker at the lunch after the AGM was Guy Bewick of PLS UK.
