30 May 2012

Modified wood producer Kebony has won a Best Innovation prize at one of the UK's highest profile business awards.

The Best Innovation award at the Best Business Awards seeks to highlight an organisation which has identified the requirement for a new product and successfully brought it to the market.

"Norway-based Kebony has come up with an innovation that could slow deforestation in tropical areas," one judge commented.

"Kebony is coming up with new uses every day and it's even talking about being used as a replacement for steel and concrete."

Through its Kebonization process, Kebony gives wood species the durability properties of the best tropical hardwoods, providing, it says, a sustainable alternative to tropical hardwood and treated timber.

Applications including yacht decking, flooring, cladding, roofing and furniture.

The Best Business Awards attract entries from international plcs to small enterprises.
