17 December 2012

German KVH producer Junginger Naturholzwerk has bought the Gaildorf-Unterrot site from construction products group Rettenmeier Holdings.

The deal completes restructuring of the group that includes super dried finger-jointed structural timber, solid timber and moulded timber operations in Germany and in Latvia and Slovakia.

The sawmill at Gaildorf-Unterrot was closed two years ago. In addition to sawn timber it produced boards for concrete block manufacturers, outdoor products and briquettes. The site included a rail head and biomass plant.

The purchase includes all warehouse and production buildings, and the power plant as well the site, however, Rettenmeier will rent the continuing metalwork production facilities while it considers whether to transfer them to another site.

Rettenmeier still has four sites in Germany producing structural and furniture timber products, panels and special timber products for low energy construction.

Gaildorf-Unterrot employed 50 people. Rettenmeier said the sale completed the recent restructuring process and no more sales were planned.
