Lathams gets Smart on EUTR records

5 October 2013

Timber and wood products importer and distributor James Latham plc is easing its adherence to the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR) after selecting Epicor's BisTrack enterprise resource planning software.

Lathams, which needs to keep track of hardwood, sheet materials, joinery quality softwood and flooring products, had gone over to BisTrack to manage its information processes, including data required under the EUTR.

The company is using BisTracks's Smart Objects to record information now required under the EUTR. BisTrack was modified to allow Lathams to keep records on suppliers and products.

"BisTrack allows us to link this recorded information to purchase orders so we can instantly trace timber purchased all the way back to the mill," said David Dunmow, Lathams' finance director.

"It's an incredibly powerful tool which we can update ourselves as and when the requirements of the law change."

BisTrack Smart Objects are an extension to the approach of providing users with their own tools such as user defined fields and Smart Views.

Lathams can create anything they need within their own view of the software, and to store any type of content, including how the content looks, where to view it and what links to include.

"We also use Profile Designer so groups of users only see views and dashboards which are relevant to them rather than generic information," added Mr Dunmow.

Another BisTrack Smart Object lets James Latham's HR team maintain employee records, while an interactive tool manages holiday requests and authorisations between staff and supervisors.
